SquareOptimizer (“SquareOptimizer,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a browser extension and companion dashboard, operated by Greengo Development LTD, that helps Squarespace site owners find and compress oversized images. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the extension or the dashboard at squareoptimizer.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
The short version: we collect account, billing, and usage-summary data needed to run the service. We do not collect, receive, or store the actual image files on your site — compression happens entirely inside your own browser. See “What we never see or store.”
When you create a SquareOptimizer account, we collect your email address and, if you sign up with a password, a securely hashed version of that password (we never store your password in plain text). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile image from Google under the permissions you grant during that sign-in.
To let the browser extension act on your behalf, the dashboard issues an authentication token. We store only a one-way hash of that token, plus a label (e.g., “Browser extension”) and the date it was last used — never the token itself in reversible form.
To show you history, enforce credit limits, and generate PDF reports, we record metadata about each optimization run: the site origin you scanned (e.g., yoursite.squarespace.com), which images were processed, their file names, their before/after file sizes, and whether the operation succeeded. We do not record the pixel content of your images anywhere in this process — see the next section.
Credit purchases are processed by Stripe, Inc. We never receive or store your full card number, expiry date, or CVC — those go directly to Stripe. We do store the resulting Stripe customer ID, the pack purchased, the amount, and the date, so we can maintain your billing history and honor the Refund Policy.
If you email support@squareoptimizer.com or otherwise contact us, we keep a record of that correspondence to respond to you and to improve the service.
On the public marketing site, we use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate traffic and which sections and buttons visitors interact with. This may include your IP address (used to derive an approximate location and then discarded), browser type, device type, and pages viewed. See “Cookies & analytics” below.
This is the part most people ask about, so we’re explicit about it. When you run an optimization, the SquareOptimizer browser extension:
At no point does the image file — original or compressed — pass through, or get transmitted to, SquareOptimizer’s servers. We only receive the summary metadata described above (file name, byte sizes, success/failure), which is what allows us to show you a report and deduct a credit. If you delete your account, that metadata is deleted with it, as described in “Data retention.”
We do not use your account or usage data to train machine-learning or AI models, and we do not sell your personal information to third parties.
We retain account and billing data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward as needed for legitimate business purposes such as tax records, fraud prevention, and dispute resolution. If you delete your account (or ask us to via support@squareoptimizer.com), we delete or anonymize your account and usage-history data, except where we are legally required to retain financial records (typically for the retention period required by applicable tax law).
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit (HTTPS/TLS), hashed storage of passwords and authentication tokens, and access controls limiting who at SquareOptimizer can view account data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to promptly investigate any suspected incident.
You have the right to:
Where we rely on consent (for example, analytics cookies), you may withdraw that consent at any time. Where we rely on legitimate interests (for example, fraud prevention), you may object and we will assess your request accordingly.
Depending on your state, you may have rights to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion of that information, to correct inaccuracies, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. SquareOptimizer does not sell personal information, and we do not use your data for cross-context behavioral advertising.
For any of the above, email support@squareoptimizer.com from the address on your account. We will verify your identity and respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (generally within 30–45 days).
SquareOptimizer is operated from the United Kingdom and used by customers worldwide, including in the United States and the European Economic Area. Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than the one in which you live, including the United Kingdom and the United States, which may have data protection laws different from those of your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for these transfers.
SquareOptimizer is a business tool intended for website owners and professionals. It is not directed at, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
SquareOptimizer is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Squarespace, Inc. “Squarespace” is a trademark of Squarespace, Inc. Any images or site content you optimize using SquareOptimizer are handled directly between your browser and Squarespace’s own servers, under your existing Squarespace account and its own terms and privacy practices, which we encourage you to review separately.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you by email or through the dashboard. Continued use of SquareOptimizer after a change becomes effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
